SILC Savings Groups
The Challenge
Many individuals in rural and low income communities have limited access to formal financial services. Without access to savings and credit, families struggle to invest in small businesses, agriculture or household needs.
Our Response
Caritas Gambia promotes Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) as a community based approach to financial inclusion.
SILC groups enable members to save regularly, access small loans and support each other in building sustainable livelihoods.
Key activities include:
Formation and training of community savings groups
Financial literacy and record keeping training
Impact
SILC groups empower members, especially women and youth, to build savings, invest in small businesses and improve household economic stability.
The approach strengthens financial resilience and encourages community solidarity through collective responsibility and mutual support.
